“If you want to know where your true power lies, go to those places you’ve been taught to fear the most. Your orgasm, your period, labour and birth, menopause… this is where your real power lies. In the sacred temple of your pelvis.” Dr Christiane Northrup
Yoni Mapping Therapy is a pelvic healing modality for women. It is an integrated modality that embraces all aspects of the self; physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and sexual. It gives you an opportunity to discover the potential of your Yoni, and to come to a place of wholeness, love, respect and honouring for yourself – getting to know yourself on a deeper level.
Initial Yoni Mapping Therapy sessions are always 3 hours long and are a combination of:
- Coaching / Talk Therapy and initial consultation – we sit down and have an informal chat about what’s going on for you. There’s space to share ANYTHING that feels important – all of you is welcome!
- Education related to pelvic wellness, pleasure, anatomy etc.
- Home-Play – Learning specific approaches and practices to take home to deepen your connection with your Yoni.
- Nurturing whole body massage – relaxing bodywork to arrive fully in the body and open yourself to receive.
- Therapeutic abdominal & pelvic massage – releasing tension and congestion in the belly and pelvis, bringing more blood flow, relaxation and sensitivity.
- Gentle external and internal vaginal massage and mapping – Undertaken with your consent and with an open flow of communication throughout. We work softly to release tension and restore blood flow, sensitivity and awareness. You are oriented to your internal pelvic landscape, following physical sensation and emotions that arise as different areas are touched and massaged.
One of the most revolutionary things I’ve come to understand in training as a Yoni Mapping Therapist is this: the vagina doesn’t really exist.
It’s not a penis shaped tube. It’s not circular. It’s not a ‘thing’ at all really. It’s a no thing. It’s space. Blissful space. Space that allows entrance and passage.
Space that is formed by the architecture of the pelvic bowl, and the organs and the muscles housed there. Space defined by the things around it. Space and architecture that is engineered for birthing.
My birthing experiences were the micro of the macro of whole of life in a few hours: exciting, exhilarating, terrifying, painful, traumatic, joyful, exhausting, initiatory, deep, real. I wouldn’t change them, because if I did, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. And I like me.
That said, I would like for any women who have yet to give birth to have this knowledge: your space is a pathway. The space and the structure inside you is designed to grow and bring your baby into the world. I would like for ALL women to have an embodied experience of what their vaginal space actually IS, beyond the limited reflection or inference that we obtain through sex. I would like for all women to experience their space in its dimensionality and totality, and for itself alone, not only as a kind of receptive reflector of the masculine.
When it comes to birth, our culture loves to peddle the story about a watermelon sized object being forced out of a lemon sized hole. That’s the one I was running with when I was birthing. But birth should not be sold as an impossible quest. If we go into the adventure with a sense that we’re having to undergo the most impossible process, it sets us up to create stories of trauma, failure, overcoming the odds, struggle and suffering. My birth stories all have these elements, not in the physical process or feeling of the birth itself, for me the trauma manifested in all the accompanying stories around it – the breech baby, the failure of the medical world, the explosive personal dynamics. And I see that in the past, when I have told my birth stories, it’s always with the sense of being a WARRIOR.
But birth is not war.
Birth is not impossible.
Birth is possible.
Birth is life.
Our bodies are purpose built for pleasure and for birth.
Yoni Mapping Therapy gives women the opportunity to experience their space in a new way. It is an exploration of the dimensionality of the pelvis. We touch on the different parts; the bones, the tendons, the ligaments, the soft tissues, the cervix, the coccyx, and yes also the pleasure anatomy like the g-spot, but specifically for women who will be birthing, this therapy can give a felt sense of the actual passage or journey that your baby will take out of your body.
What has struck me in the sessions I have received, is how powerful it would have been as a pregnant woman to have had this experience prior to going into labour. To have walked my baby’s pathway within me before he did. To have seen the pathway existed would have allowed me to put down the watermelon, surrendered to the process and believed in the naturalness of opening to allow life entrance. It would have given me the space to trust my body.
So now, I will say a little thank you to my beautiful body, for housing me and for birthing my babies. I trust you.
